Hi, storycatchers! In the last edition of the CANON, I talked about how to believe in your story and your ability as a storyteller. In this edition, I’m doing something a little different—introducing the members of Apple Hair. Hopefully, you’ll be inspired to create your own character (or 5!). Each character will have a mini profile, and then a little intro about who they are and what they bring to the band. Let’s get started!
Van Le
Ethnicity: Vietnamese

Van is the trusty leader of Apple Hair! His favorite thing is to enjoy a bowl of homemade pho from his mom. He also loves to play video games with his older brother. The shyest of the bunch, Van struggles to reach out to people, especially to strangers. But he is the definition of a steady person, which is why he’s chosen as the band leader! When he’s not gaming, he’s getting lost in a new novel—he favors fantasy series with complex worldbuilding. Although shy, he is very protective of the other band members.

He got his start in music while busking on the streets of Waikiki with his guitar. He is often labeled as childish, especially with his golden-retriever-like energy, but he is actually quite introspective. When not working on his music production or vocals, he can be found watching cute animal videos on YouTube.

Kaden is often labeled as the most mature of the group. With a confidence that allows him to defend the group, he takes center stage whenever a confrontation happens with other trainees in the entertainment company. He’s fiercely protective of his little sister and often endures Seiya telling him to “loosen up,” even though he considers himself never on edge. Always at the top of his class, Kaden is the most strategic when it comes to debuting as an artist.

He loves speaking in Hawaiian pidgin and playing basketball, sometimes at the same time. With an almost rough exterior, he’s actually quite the softie. He got into K-pop after discovering hip hop and dance first, and he loves to write freestyles while thinking about performing on huge stages.

He’s quiet like Van, but on the inside, he’s probably dreaming about the million ways his future could go. With a great appreciation for K-pop ever since he was able to choose what to play on the radio, he’s always wanted to break into the industry in some way. He’s obsessed with mobile games and volleyball, although both take a backseat when he starts training at AWE Entertainment. With a huge romantic streak, he’s always thinking about a lyric that almost certainly veers into the purple prose territory, as he loves a good wordy and roundabout phrase.
