Welcome to the Apple Hair CANON!
Here, I’ll explore creating a fictional universe, and I’m hoping you’ll follow along with your own world. I’m by no means an expert, so let’s discuss how to create a believable, magical, and captivating world. Let’s be storycatchers together!
Want to read Apple Hair, the boy band fantasy novel, from the very beginning? You can start here! Apple Hair is a fictional, Asian American boy band from Hawaii.
Welcome to the newsletter, and I’m excited to lay down the foundations of our storyworlds together, one word at a time.
Hi, storycatchers! Today’s post is a little different though still related to creating storyworlds. I have a question for you: do you think that you should harness main character energy in your writing career?
Main character energy is basically believing that you are the main star, and so various opportunities and successes will come to you if you believe and build your life.
Honestly, I thought this was what creatives needed to do to succeed.
Now, I look at things a bit differently. I really took a close look at my faith, realizing that I shouldn’t be the main character at all. As a Christian, I am striving to ultimately be humble and to think of myself as just a small piece of God’s plan. This is so much harder than it sounds! Actually, I would love to stand on stage and receive a reward for Apple Hair. At the same time, I need to confront why I think I need this to find happiness.
I go back to the characters of Apple Hair. They are all fighting for their debut in the entertainment industry. They would love to travel and perform on various stages. So do they think that they are the main characters?
I’d actually say that the members of Apple Hair value their bond with each other more than receiving praise for their talents. In the end, they are happy with being side characters, giving priority to building a community for their fans. Putting fans first, they are stepping out of the spotlight and making more room for creatives to grow. Wow, I wish I was part of their fan club for real! Of course, David is the Christian of the group, and he does have influence on his other team members with his humble spirit.
In this current age, we are told to continually invest in ourselves and aim for the highest possible goals. Once we reach those goals, we truly embody the main character. Have you been believing in this idea of success? I know I definitely have. In my writing career, I envision myself with certain titles and prestige. However, I am learning that I am only just one small part of a greater purpose. Everything should actually point to Jesus and his unconditional love. Not how amazing I am at crafting a scene or creating a fictional world.
So we can still write with passion and use our talents. Storybuilders are much needed in today’s dark world! However, our joy shouldn’t be tied to the attention and fame of a main character.
I’ll leave you with a Bible verse! John 3:30 says: “He must increase, but I must decrease.” John the Baptist is stating this here. What do you think is the meaning of this verse?
For my paid subscribers, here’s a link to early access to Debut in Broad Daylight. I appreciate you very much! A reminder that this is a very rough draft—meaning very unedited! You’re getting the first sneak peek, and the boy band members are glad you’re getting an early start with them.
What would you like me to discuss in the next post? Jump into my Chat or on one of my Notes, and I’ll be happy to hear your input. I’m rooting for both of us!
